What is a Pediatrician?

Pediatricians specialize in the medical care of children, including infants and adolescents, up to age 21. The main difference with pediatricians and adult medicine is the body size and how congenital defects, genetic dispositions and developmental issues are of particular importance to a pediatrician. The physiology of an infant or child can change the medication prescribed and the outcome of diagnosing illness, as compared to an adult.

Symptoms and Treatments of Illness in Children?

Pediatricians treat children for illness. Common reasons that children see a pediatrician — chickenpox, coughs, colds, ear infections, croup, diarrhea and vomiting, fever, food allergies, and measles and mumps. A pediatric doctor may have to treat children that have illnesses that are unclear or are recurrent, have respiratory issues, bone and joint infections, TB, AIDS, hepatitis and meningitis. They prescribe medication and give advice to parents on diet and other ways to best care for their children.
